Slighty cloudy with a chance of Wii.

January 6, 2007

Why is it so freakishly nice out today!!!???

Temperatures in the 60’s, partly sunny, wtf mates?

Well, I’m not complaining, instead I’m going outside to enjoy this weather. Go for a walk down by the shore, or something of the like. Should be fun. All this nice weather has me thinking of springtime, even though its January!

There is only a week before I go back to PSU for my fourth semester at college. Last semester was hell. But, through it all, I managed a 3.45 GPA (by the grace of god it appears).

But, I don’t want to waste much more of this fine day on the computer. Things are turning around, I am sure of it. I have a job, and we’ll see if I can’t keep up my successes on my return back to PSU. Hell, I even have incentive from my parents. Because of my good academic standing, they promised to get me a Nintendo Wii!!!!

Every cloud has it’s silver lining.

Jelly Filled Cubicles

January 3, 2007

Events appear hazy and indistinct. As the scene unfolds before my eyes, I feel disconnected, like a bystander. People talking, gesturing, in what appears to be the office I work at. Techno music begins to pulse in the background.

And then everything becomes clear. The office drifts away and is replaced by the comforting atmosphere of my bedroom. But the techno music still pulses in the background. Ah yes, my stupid alarm. It’s 6:00 a.m. and it’s time to go to work. How odd, that I was just dreaming of it. Even more odd, that the dream was a premonition of the day’s events. Granted, it was a boring dream, and the days events were boring. Infact, my day was just as much a haze as the dream. Office work is so…monotonous. My prior work experiances were much more exciting, or atleast, less….cublicle-y.

My first job ever was mowing my neighbors yard. I don’t know how I got the job, all I know is that gosh darn mower never worked right. Kicking it always helped. Unfortunately, mowing lawns doesn’t provide yearround income, and through some connections, I pulled down a job at the local bakery. By far, worst job EVER! Long hours, minimum wage, to wash dishes, PILES of dishes. Piles that never seemed to end, along with a slew of other small meaningless tasks. Fill up the jelly tubes. Sort the sprinkles. Clean the grease trap. Move doughnuts from freezer A to freezer B. Too much work, not enough time. Eventually, overwhelmed by the Mount Everest of dishes, and already working an hour past close, I ‘accidentally’ forgot my duty to move the doughnuts. Oops. Apparently it cost the bakery $300 in sales, and ‘my services were no longer necessary.’ Interestingly enough, there were only 72 doughnuts to be moved…and they sold for 65 cents each. And for Karma’s sake…Dunkin’ Donuts has all but shut down the place.

One can’t help but smile.

There was the perk of getting as many free doughnuts, muffins, and other delectible treats as I wanted…but all that taught me is A.) Never work at a place you want to dine at, and B.) Your Calculus teacher can only be bribed once with sugary sweets. After that, it’s money or nothing. So since then, I stay away from the food industry for jobs, and bribes.
